WEYMOUTH- Charles Richard Hudson, 88 years of age, passed away at his home on Wednesday, September 21, 2016. Charlie was born in Chicago, IL and raised in Weymouth where he attended Weymouth Schools. Prior to finishing high school, Charlie enlisted in the Navy for WWII where he served two years. When his tour with WWII ended, he re-enlisted with the US Marine Corps where he served three tours with the 5th Marine Division. He was involved with the Chosin Reservoir Campaign during the Korean Conflict. He was known as one of the “frozen Chosin”. Upon returning from the war, Charlie was employed as a pipefitter for the Revere Sugar Company and the Allis Chalmers Company. He had also worked as a radar installer for the D. S. Kennedy Company. He then went to work for the GTE Government Systems Corporation, working as a supervisor in their plant design/engineering department. He retired from GTE twenty years ago. Charlie was an active member of the Orphan’s Hope Masonic Lodge of Weymouth, now known as the Weymouth United Masonic Lodge. He was also an extremely active member of the Weymouth United Methodist Church in East Weymouth. Charlie was the husband of the late Jane (Purdy) Hudson who died in 2001. He is the devoted father of Philip J. Hudson and his fiancée Lisa M. Allen of Weymouth, Paul C. Hudson married to Lisa Hudson of Melrose, and the late Gregory A. Hudson who is survived by his wife Brittany of North Reading. He is the proud grandfather of Emily and Abigail Hudson of Melrose and Carli Hudson of North Reading. Charlie was the brother of the late Marilyn Jenkins and he was predeceased by his best friend Carl Lovendale who died in 2015. There will be a Visiting hour held at the Mortimer N. Peck-Russell Peck Funeral Home, 870 Broad Street, (opposite the US Post Office in Jackson Square) East Weymouth on Friday, September 23rd from 10:00-11:00am. There will be a Masonic Service conducted by the Weymouth United Masonic Lodge at 10:30am during the visiting hours. A Funeral Service will follow the visiting hours on Friday at the Weymouth United Methodist Church, 747 Broad Street, E. Weymouth at 11:30am. Pastor Laurie Kilgore will officiate. Burial will follow at the Washington Street Cemetery in Norwell. Memorial Donations in Charlie’s memory may be sent to the Disabled American Veterans, VARO Room 1575B, JFK Federal Building, Government Center, Boston, MA 02203.
