BRAINTREE- Richard W. “Dick” Mitchell, 71 years of age, passed away after a brief illness at the Kindred Care Center in Braintree on Thursday, October 13, 2016. Richard was born in Quincy and raised in Braintree. He was a graduate of Braintree High School Class of 1963. He continued his education at Burdett College and Bentley College where he received his Associates Degree.  He was employed by the New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston for over 25 years working in their payroll department. Dick retired in 1989 to care for his mother after his father passed away. Dick was a caring and quiet simple man who loved to play golf and pool. He would often be seen enjoying long walks with his wife Joan. He was also known as a perfectionist about his person and his cars. You can ask anyone. Dick and Joan were Eucharistic Ministers and also taught religious education as a team. Dick will be missed by all who really knew him and he was very good hearted. Dick was the son of the late William and Martha (Janik) Mitchell formerly of Braintree. He was the loving husband for 40 years to Joan M. (Graziano) Mitchell of Braintree. He is also survived by his beloved Maltese dog “Pearl” whom he cherished; in addition he is also survived by many cousins and in-laws. He was the Godfather of the late Gregory Goulart. Visiting hours will be held at the Mortimer N. Peck-Russell Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington Street, Braintree on Tuesday, October 18th from 10:00am-1:00pm to be followed by a Catholic Prayer Service at the funeral home at 1:00pm. Burial will follow at the Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
