William “Pops” Michael Shaughnessy, age 90, from Marshfield, MA died on January 24, 2022 after a long illness of dementia. Bill was predeceased by his wife Jean Shaughnessy, and his sisters Carol Doyle and Fay Gallery. Bill is survived by his brother John Shaughnessy of Boston, MA, his wife of 42 years Susanne Shaughnessy of Marshfield, MA, his 5 children, Jay Shaughnessy and his wife Bahar Ceceli, of Cherry Hill, NJ, Mary Everett and her husband Bruce Everett of Bolton, MA, Susie Caliendo of Duxbury, MA, Tina Dwyer of South Boston, MA and Laura Donovan and her husband Michael Donovan of Sandwich, MA. Bill also leaves behind 10 wonderful grandchildren and multiple cousins, nieces and nephews.
Bill was born and raised in Roxbury, MA. As a child, Bill used to watch airplanes fly into Logan Airport and dreamed of being an airline pilot. When Bill graduated from Boston College, he enlisted in the Navy where he learned to fly and flew airplanes off the aircraft carriers. After 20 years of service, he retired from the Navy as a Captain. He is a veteran of the Korean war. Bill then went on to test helicopters at Sikorsky, then ended up working as a pilot for American Airlines for 26 years.
Bill raised his family in Duxbury, MA and retired in Marshfield, MA. Above all, Bill loved hanging out with his grandchildren. He also loved to golf and then meeting his friends for pizza and beer. Bill will be mostly remembered for having a great sense of humor, being kind and generous and most of all for being a great catholic.
