WEYMOUTH – Robert Louis Johnson, 95, of Weymouth, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2018. He was born in Braintree to the late Albin Johnson and his wife, Gertrude (Wise) Johnson. He graduated from Quincy High School in 1942. He was a World War II, Navy Veteran. He served as a Gunner’s Mate First Class, on the USS Hudson, DD475, with its 5 inch guns. He retired from the Navy as a Petty Officer First Class and was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, American Area Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon with 8 stars, Good Conduct Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal. Robert was a member of the “Tin Can Sailors of America”, the U.S. Golf Association and was a Member of the Community Baptist Church of Weymouth. Robert was the husband of the late Doris (Gilliatt) Johnson, and was the brother of his late sister, Shirley Back and his late brother, Wesley Johnson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Robert was also a retired employee of the Masoneilan Co. of Avon, MA. Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 8 PM on Thursday November 29, 2018 at the Mortimer N. Peck Funeral Chapels in Braintree at 516 Washington St. A funeral service will begin at 10:30 AM on Friday, November 30th at the Braintree Peck Funeral Chapels and at 11:30 arrive at the Village Cemetery in Weymouth, MA.
