Rita Morison passed away peacefully on January 29, 2021. Rita entered every room with a smile. She loved her large family of thirteen siblings and was always available to help them in any way she could. Rita embodied an independent spirit. She was the caretaker of her mother and sister Mary.
Rita began and ended her career at Gillette in South Boston. She started as a technician on the assembly line but advanced quickly to an administrative role where she spent most of her career. After retirement in 1988, Rita worked as an Usherette at the Wang Theater in Boston and enjoyed many of the Broadway and Musical Acts that came to Boston. As a young woman, she spent her personal time enjoying family activities, card parties with her sister, bowling, and playing on the Gillette Softball Team. Rita was an active member of the Castle Island Association. As their Activities Director, Rita became a world traveler, immersing herself in all the countries and cultures she visited.
She was a lifelong resident of South Boston, and member of Gate of Heaven Church. Rita was friendly and enjoyed meeting up with neighbors as she walked the neighborhood of her hometown. She was an avid Red Sox fan enjoying going to Fenway Park or watching the team play on TV. She is survived by her sister Jean Devine, her parents the late Erina and James Morison, her late siblings Robert, Donald, and William Morison, Rose Perry, Dorothy Coyne, Mary Morison, Christine Donald, Erena Meleo, and Margaret Donga.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, February 18 from 9-10:15 A.M. at Mortimer N Peck Funeral Home at 516 Washington St, Braintree MA . A church service will follow at Gate Of Heaven Church in South Boston. Guests are welcome to say their goodbyes at Gethsemane Cemetery in West Roxbury following the services.
