Rita Loreta (Baccari) Cuneo

Rita Cuneo passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, March 4 th ,2026, at the age of 94.

Rita was born in Quincy, Mass on August 22, 1931, to Gina and Loreto Baccari. She resided in Braintree, MA for the entirety of her life.

She married her childhood sweetheart, Lester Joseph Cuneo on May 15 th , 1955, and they celebrated 68 years of marriage before his passing on January 4 th , 2023.

Rita worked as a secretary at Granite Cutters in Quincy for many years before joining her husband at the Charles Stark Draper Lab in Cambridge, working as an Executive Administrative Assistant until she retired at age 70.

Rita was the heart of her family. She was a devoted mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend. She loved to host the most amazing family get togethers for every holiday and special occasion. She was loved and cherished by everyone who met her.

Beloved wife of Lester Joseph Cuneo (pre-deceased), loving mother to Michael (pre-deceased), Bruce, (pre-deceased), her daughter Elaine Shepherd and her husband David of Marshfield, MA, her son Brian Cuneo of Norwell and her daughter-in-law Kathy Cuneo of Rockland.

She was the loving grandmother of Tracy, Erin, Sarah, Blake, Emily, David and Christian. She was the great grandmother of Annabelle and Steven O’Donnell, Logan Scott and Chase Cuneo. Rita was pre-deceased by her brothers, Dominic and Eddie Baccari. She leaves behind her sister Elba DelGrosso of Scituate and her sister-in-law Lorraine Baccari of Norwell as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was an active member of Quincy YMCA where she swam 7 days a week up until her passing.

Relatives and friends are respectively invited to greet the family during the visiting hours at Peck Funeral Home, 519 Washington Street, Braintree, MA on Thursday, March 12 th , from 9:00-11:00 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mount Wollaston Cemetery, 20 Sea Street, Quincy, MA. A get- together will follow at the Common Market in Quincy for family and friends.
