Philip Greely Obituary

Philip Allen Greely, 91, of Duxbury, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2025, at Royal Nursing Home in Norwell. He was a kind and hard-working man whose warmth and sense of humor touched the lives of many. He loved watching sports, was a huge fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots, and loved to watch and play golf when he could.

Born on September 3, 1933, Philip grew up in Quincy, Massachusetts, and raised his family in Duxbury, Massachusetts. He was a graduate of Thayer Academy secondary school in Braintree, Massachusetts and Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts. Before starting his civilian career, he proudly served in the United States Army. Stationed in Japan, he supported operations with diligence and commitment. Upon discharge from the Army, he began his career with IBM as a marketing representative, where the largest account he sold was Columbia Records. Over the course of his career, he also worked at State Street Bank, Hancock Real Estate, and owned two laundromats on the South Shore. Known for his dedication and strong work ethic, Philip took great pride in providing for his family. His natural people skills and talent for sales helped many South Shore families find homes, and his attention to detail and care left a lasting impact in every role he undertook.

Like his wife, Sally, Philip cherished his family above all else. He is survived by his children: Wallace Allen Greely and his wife Kathy of New Bedford, MA; David Philip Greely and his wife Linda of Wolfeboro, NH; Charles Bradford Greely and his wife Patricia of Holbrook, MA; and William Theodore Greely and his partner Fred Florendo of Sharon, MA. He is also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Michael, Jason, and Christopher, and his great-grandchildren Ryan and Trevor, who will forever treasure his kindness and sense of humor. His sister-in-law, Nancy McRae, remains a cherished part of his family, as does his nephew, Ian McRae of Gulfport, Mississippi. Philip’s love for his family was evident in his thoughtful advice, steady guidance, and the countless ways he showed his support and affection.

Philip is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sally Lou Greely; his mother, Ruth Elinor Cruze (née Greely, née Golbranson); and his father, Cyrus Philip Greely, who passed away when Philip was very young—a reunion long awaited and hopefully filled with love.

A celebration of Philip’s life will be held on Saturday March 29, 2025 from 11:00-12:30 at Peck Funeral Home in Braintree, Massachusetts.
