Michael John Lewandowski, known to many simply as Michael, passed away in Warwick,
Rhode Island, leaving behind a life marked by hard work, loyalty, and the quiet strength that
earned him the respect and affection of those who knew him.
Born on October 29, 1967, in Dorchester, Massachusetts, Michael was a proud son of his
hometown. He was shaped by the close-knit spirit of the communities around him and by the
people who came to know him as steady and dependable. Those qualities remained with him
through every chapter of his life and were reflected in the way he lived, worked, and spent time
with others.
Michael attended South Eastern Tech High School in Easton, Massachusetts, where he began
building the foundation for the life he would later lead. He approached life with practicality and
determination, and he understood the value of showing up, doing the work, and taking pride in
a job well done. These traits guided him through his working years and became part of the
legacy he leaves behind.
He worked at Stop & Shop Distribution Center, in Freetown for over 20 years where he was
known for his reliable presence. Michael took pride in being part of a team and in contributing
to the day-to-day efforts that kept things moving. His colleagues knew him as someone who
could be counted on, and he carried himself with the kind of quiet professionalism that left a
lasting impression. He was also a longtime Teamster Union member, a role that reflected his
commitment and the importance of standing with fellow workers.
In his younger years, Michael was a man of varied interests and passions. He was a hockey
and a pool table player, and sports were one of the things that brought energy, discipline, and
enjoyment into his life. He also enjoyed fishing, a pastime that offered him peace. In later years,
he developed a strong interest in antiques and collectibles, finding appreciation in the stories,
craftsmanship, and history found in older pieces.
Michael’s life was one of simple pleasures, and steady commitments. He did not seek
attention, but he left an impression through his presence, his consistency, and the way he
carried himself with dignity. His memory will be held with warmth by those who had the
privilege of knowing him.
Michael is survived by his son Joseph Lewandowski; his two granddaughters, Olivia and Mila
Lewandowski Salas; his mother, Mary Doran McLaughlin; two of his siblings, Steven, and
Joanne (Nadeau) Lewandowski; his half sister, Heather Dube Vause; his step siblings, Walter,
Jason, Susan, and Julie (Glass) Emerson; his brother-in-law, Ernie Nadeau; his niece and
nephew, Skylah and Ian Nadeau, and his daughter-in-law, Filomena (Lewandowski) Salas
Reina.
Michael is preceded in death by his late wife, Susan “Sue” Jean (Lewandowski) Burrell, who
passed away in July, 2025. Though their relationship wasn’t permanent, they remained close
and co-parent their only son, Joseph Michael Lewandowski. He is also preceded in death by
his father, Edward; his two brothers, Eddie and Kevin Lewandowski; his stepfather, Frederick
McLaughlin and his stepmother, Kathy Lewandowski.
Though he is no longer here, Michael will remain with those who loved him, worked beside him,
and shared in the moments that made up his life. He will be remembered with affection,
respect, and gratitude for the years he was given and the life he lived.
