Matthew James Grealish

BRAINTREE - Matthew James Grealish, of Braintree passed away at home on Wednesday, January 5th 2022 at the age of 76. He was born in Boston on December 14, 1945. “Uncle Mattie”, as he was affectionately called, was a generous and loving brother, father and uncle. He is survived by his son, Kevin, his brothers Michael and Jack, his sister Helen Sylva and more nieces, nephews and cousins than we could count. Family was always at the top of his priority list, often saying family is the only thing you can rely on. We are blessed to have had him in our lives and take comfort in all the memories he gave us.

Matthew was a Vietnam veteran serving in the Army as Military Police in Saigon from 1967 - 1969. When he came home he worked as a Postal Police Officer at the main post office building in Boston until he retired. Though he hadn’t played much in recent years, he was a skilled billiards player and was once described as having “killer instinct” on the table. He loved boxing and rarely missed a big fight. He would spend most Saturdays with his son in New Hampshire watching classic boxing matches and comparing the legends of old to the stars of today. He loved watching the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots as long as he had a nice recliner to relax in.

Visiting hours will be on Sunday, January, 9th from 3-7 P.M.at Peck Funeral Homes 516 Washington St. Braintree, MA. Additional visiting hours will be held on Monday, January 10th, from 10 to 12 noon  followed by the Prayer Service at Noon.
