Mary Ellen (Callahan) Haskell, 81, of Braintree passed away peacefully on Friday, May 4, 2018 after a long illness. Mary Ellen was born and spent her early years in Plymouth. She was a graduate of Lexington High School. Following her graduation Mary Ellen worked for the town of Lexington and then for the Telephone Company. Mary Ellen married and had her daughter Jill, and was a stay-at-home mom for several years. After moving to Braintree she worked for the Alve’s Photo Service as a driver and later as the Personnel Manager. It was at Alve’s that she met her husband, Robert to whom she has been married to for the last 45 years. After leaving Alve’s Photo she worked for the Jordan Marsh Company in sales and as a floral designer in area florist shops until her retirement. Mary Ellen was a prolific gardener and was also the number one fan of the Red Sox and the Patriots. Mary Ellen had a beautiful singing voice that only a chosen few got to enjoy. To hear her sing “Danny Boy” was a true joy. The true loves of Mary Ellen’s life were her family, especially her grand-daughter, Leah, whom she adored.
Mary Ellen is survived by her beloved and devoted husband, Robert Haskell. She is the much loved Mother of Jill Glidden and her husband Peter Will. Mary Ellen is the proud and adored Grandmother of Leah Glidden. She is also survived by her sister Kathleen Sherwood and many nieces and nephews. Mary Ellen was predeceased by her parents, Daniel and Catherine (Carroll) Callahan.
A funeral mass will be celebrated for Mary Ellen at Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 856 Washington Street, South Braintree Square on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 10:30 A.M.
Burial will be private at a later date. Memorial donations in Mary Ellen’s memory may be sent to The Hospice of the South Shore, 30 Reservoir Park Dr, Rockland, MA 02370. Arrangements by the Peck Funeral Home of Braintree.
