Marjorie Gibbs (Mellor) Castle passed away on September 14, 2021, at the age of 107 years old.
She was born on 07/25/1914 in Dorchester, MA, to the late Beatrice (Fry) and Edward Mellor of England.
During her youth, Marjorie worked as a photo painter and as a secretary at an insurance company. She was a volunteer air warden during WW2 and volunteered for her local Meals on Wheels for many years. Throughout her life, she most loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed many hobbies including singing in the Boston Choral Society with her husband, performing in local stage productions, going to the beach, traveling, crocheting, reading, baking, and most of all, working on her photo albums and working in her garden.
She lived an incredibly long and fulfilling life and remained active into her 100’s. Amazingly, she beat COVID at 106 years old. She resided in Braintree, MA for the last 74 years. She is remembered for her fierce independence, nurturing manner, and sense of humor.
Marjorie was the sister of the late Gordon Mellor (and wife Alice). She was widowed by the late John Allen Castle after 59 years of marriage. Together, Marjorie and John had a son, the late Allen Castle, and are survived by their daughter Judi Castle, their grandchildren Angela Francois (and husband Dean) and Steven Polar (and wife Sue), and their great grandchildren Heather Francois-Vaughan (and husband Trevor), Heath Francois (and partner Victoria Wallace), and Courtney Polar. Marjorie is also survived by her closest friend, Jackie Murray, in addition to her wonderful neighbors from Putnam Avenue.
