Mario Libardoni Obituary

BRAINTREE, Mario A. Libardoni, age 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on February 14, 2023. Mario was born on March 2, 1929, to the late Angelo and Theresa Libardoni and raised in Somerville, MA.

Mario proudly served his country in the Marine Corps from 1946-1947 and the Navy from 1949-1954, during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged in 1954, he continued in the Navy Reserves for 35 years, retiring as a Master Chief Petty Officer onboard the USS Constitution.
Mario graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1958 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and began his career at Bethlehem Steel Shipyard, Quincy, MA.  He later worked at the U.S. Army Natick Research and Development Center, Natick, MA where he retired after 25 years.

In retirement, Mario volunteered for 27 years at the Boston National Historic Park in the Charlestown Navy Yard onboard the USS Cassin Young, as well as the USS Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr at Battleship Cove in Fall River, and served as Director of the Retired Activities office at the Navy Operational Support Center, Quincy, MA.

When not volunteering on maritime projects, he enjoyed woodworking, reading, and bowling, as well as spending time with his family, friends, and beloved dogs.

A Braintree resident since 1960, he is survived by his wife, Constance “Connie” (Arsenault), his daughter Diane Fee and her husband Edward Fee of Hingham, and his granddaughter Isabella Fee. Beloved brother of Norma Sheehan and Albert Libardoni, and the late Frank Libarboni and Mary Dangora.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family during the visiting hours at Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington Street in Braintree on Tuesday, February 21 from 4-7 pm. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, February 22 at 10:30 am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 856 Washington Street, Braintree. Burial will be private.

 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mario’s memory to Hospice Services of Massachusetts at 10 Riverside Drive, Suite 201, Lakeville, MA 02347.
