Maggie Hayes Campbell of Braintree, Ma passed away peacefully on February 28, 2022, surrounded by love and family after fighting a long, courageous battle with chronic lung disease. She was 73 years old. Maggie was the loving wife of 36 years to Thomas Campbell of Braintree, Ma; devoted mother of Monique Collins and her husband Frank of Braintree and Caitlyn Campbell-Liston and her husband John of Wilmington; and adoring grandmother of Christian, Elizabeth, Liam, Ella and Dylan Collins of Braintree.
Born in Pittsfield, Ma, Maggie was the beloved daughter of William and Elizabeth “Betty” Hayes. One of nine siblings, Maggie is predeceased by brothers Bernie, David, Patrick and Kevin Hayes; and sisters Jane Joubert and Helen Hayes. Maggie leaves behind her sister Tessie and her husband Jerry Doyle of Rockland, Ma; her brother Chuck and his wife Susan Hayes of Washington, D.C.
Maggie also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and many others whose hearts she touched.
Maggie graduated from Saint Joseph’s High School in Pittsfield, Ma and went on to earn her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education and Care from Bristol Community College in Fall River, Ma.
Maggie was proudest of her work with troubled and challenged youth at Saint Vincent’s Group Home in Fall River, Ma. She continues to receive letters and cards from youth thanking her for the impact she had on their lives. Maggie also had a successful second career in publishing at Morgan-Grampian in Pittsfield and New England Beverage Journal in Avon.
While Maggie enjoyed many pastimes and hobbies throughout her life, her daughters and her grandchildren were her greatest treasures and provided her with the most joy.
Family, friends and all who were lucky enough to meet her, remember her for her selflessness, warmth and kind heart. She was truly too good for this earth.
Visiting hours will be held at Peck Funeral Home in Braintree, Ma from 4-8pm on Friday, March 4th. Funeral Mass will be at Saint Francis of Assisi at 11:30 AM on Saturday, March 5th.
In lieu of flowers, Maggie requested donations be made in her name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
