Joseph Francis O’Brien 94 years of age, entered Life Eternal peacefully at the Dr. Ruth McLain Hospice Home in Braintree on Monday, December 6, 2021. Joseph was born in Medford and raised in South Boston, where he graduated from English High School before serving in the Coast Guard and attending Boston College. He worked for the East Boston Public Schools as a math teacher and for the United States Post Office for 37 years before retiring. In retirement, Joseph enjoyed traveling, spending summers on Cape Cod, listening to Noel Henry’s Irish band, and surrounding himself with friends and family. He lived in Braintree for 60 years. Joseph was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Marilyn K. O’Brien, and his son Daniel O’Brien, husband of Kristine O’Brien of Plymouth. He is survived by six of his children: Maureen Johnson, wife of the late Harry Johnson of Quincy, Karen O’Byrne, married to Andrew O’Byrne of Wagener, SC, Kevin O’Brien, married to Suzanne O’Brien of Dennis, Joanne Plunkett, married to Timothy Plunkett of Abington, Lynn Kearney, married to Michael Kearney of Halifax, and Timothy O’Brien of Weymouth. Joseph is also survived by six grandchildren, and he was the brother of the late Andrew O’Brien and the late Mary O’Brien. Visiting hours will be at the Mortimer N. Peck-Russell Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington Street, Braintree on Thursday, December 9th from 10:00 to 11:30 AM, followed by A Funeral Mass in the Church of Saint Francis of Assisi, Braintree at 12:00 PM. The Reverend Paul Clifford, pastor of the Church, will be the celebrant. Burial will follow at the Braintree Cemetery.
