Joan G (Gustafson) Brooks

BRAINTREE – Joan G. Brooks, 84, died peacefully on December 11, 2021.  Joan was born on June 29th, 1937 and lived in Braintree most of her life.  Affectionately known as Gussie, she loved spending time with friends and family, playing and watching golf, and listening to folk music.  She made an impact on thousands in her many years as a nurse in New Haven and later at Quincy Medical, working right up until she was about 75.  Joan was the daughter of the late Hazel and William Gustafson and sister of the late Robert A. Gustafson.  She is survived by her daughter Kim Brooks and son-in-law Bill Conboy, daughter Kristen Brooks, granddaughter Jillian Oster, and best friend of 72 years, Donna Payne.  Joanie B had a great sense of humor, a quick wit, and took everything in stride.  She played basketball in school and was active in her BHS class of 1955, later graduating from the University of Connecticut with a nursing degree.  She proudly raised her children, cared for everyone around her, and was the organizer of her golf and bowling leagues for many years.   Supporting and being with her granddaughter, Jillian, brought her the greatest joy of all.  Visitation will be on December 20th from 9:00 am – 11:00 am at the Braintree Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington Street, followed by a service at the funeral home at 11:15.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Joanie’s memory may be made to Help Us Find A Parkinson's Cure | Parkinson's Disease (michaeljfox.org) or Donate to Hebrew SeniorLife | Hebrew SeniorLife.
