Irving Bradford Hutchinson passed away on August 23rd, 2025 in Quincy, after a brief illness. He was 87 years old.
Irving was born in 1938 in Quincy Massachusetts and was raised by his mother Thelma (Andresen) Joly and father Alfred Joly Sr. He proudly attended North Quincy High School. In 1956 Irving enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served 3 years as a field artilleryman with the 2nd Heavy Artillery Rocket Battery at Camp Lejeune NC. After leaving the Marines, he met and married the love of his life Barbara. They were married for 61 years, and had 3 children and 9 grandchildren together. Irving worked as a draftsman for Massa Electronics and Gillette Safety Razor. A majority of his career was spent at Stone & Webster where he was appointed as a mechanical engineer and later worked in project management. Over the years he also spent time working construction with his brother Al, as well as managing Towne Brook house, a HUD sponsored low-income housing facility in Quincy. Irving’s faith was very important to him and he held many leadership positions in the different churches he attended over the years. While attending Wollaston Lutheran church, he was instrumental in the inception and creation of Fenno House, a HUD sponsored assisted living facility, where he spent the last 4 years of his life. Irving was dedicated to his family and loved them very much.
He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Louise (Harvey) Hutchinson and son Bradford Hutchinson. The oldest of many siblings, He is also preceded by his brothers Robert Hutchinson and Alfred Joly Jr,. and his sister Cheryl (Joly) O’Donnell. He is survived by his children Eric Hutchinson and his wife Catherine, and Anne Hutchinson Norman and her husband Christopher. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Jamie Kimmel, Jared Kimmel, Adam Hutchinson, Sara Hutchinson, Brendan Perkins, Mikayla Norman, Adelaide Norman, Claudia Norman, and Benjamin Norman.
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours Thursday, August 28th from 4 to 7 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington Street, Braintree. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 29th at 10 a.m. at Union Congregational Church, 74 Commercial Street, Braintree, followed by a burial at Braintree Town Cemetery, 225 Plain Street, Braintree.
