Helena (Towner) MacKinnon came into this world on September 13, 1920 to her parents Helen (Dawson) Towner and David J. Towner. After five years came her sister Ruth (Towner) Bennett and then three years later came her youngest sister Lillian (Towner) Leary.
In 1945 she met my Dad Robert G. MacKinnon and married in June 15, 1946. In May of 1947 came Joan (MacKinnon) McAndrew and in April, 1949 came Robert G. MacKinnon Jr.
1949 Mom and Dad purchased their home in Braintree, where Mom passed away. Then 1954 came David MacKinnon and in 1957 came Sandy (MacKinnon) Caruso. That completed our family, until the four grandchildren came along and gave her eight great children.
One of the greatest moments in Mom’s life was when her hearing was restored in 1965. She lost her hearing as a child when the whooping cough blew her tonsil apart and they embedded into her ears. She was amazed of the sounds that she never heard that we took for granted. Just hearing the birds was great treat.
That same year she got the nerve up to get a part time job in Grossman’s Office in Braintree where she retired in the 1980’s.
Mom was also like adopted mother to all our friends. Our home was a place everyone was welcomed.
Mom and Dad were true soulmates and now are together again.
