In Loving Memory of Eugene J. Loreth March 12, 1928 – September 26, 2025.
With deep love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Eugene “Gene” J. Loreth—a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, and friend—who passed peacefully on September 26th.
Born in Camden, New Jersey, Gene grew up in Williamstown alongside his beloved sisters, Bert and Irene. At just 16, he answered the call of duty and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, beginning a journey marked by courage, honor, and unwavering service. From 1944 to 1952, Gene served as Chief Petty Officer Pipe Fitter, stationed aboard the USS Renville, USS Reina Mercedes, USS Atka, and USS Severn. He also served in Okinawa, Japan, where he aided Marines as a corpsman during one of the most intense chapters of the war. His dedication earned him the WWII Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Award—testaments to his integrity and valor.
After his military service, Gene poured his heart into a 70-year career as a Master Plumber, founding Loreth Home Improvement and was known for his meticulous craftsmanship and genuine care for his customers, many were lifelong relationships.
In 1954, Gene married the love of his life, Peggy. Together, they settled in Braintree and created a home filled with cherished memories. They raised five children, instilling in them the values of hard work, kindness, and family devotion.
Gene’s legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched. He was a generous man, always ready with a helping hand with a plumbing repair, a clever joke, or a unique gift he believed you needed. He loved ushering at Sunday Mass at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Holbrook.
He was a proud member of the American Legion and served as Commander of the Braintree Post, where he found camaraderie and purpose among fellow veterans. His garden was his sanctuary after long days of work, he found peace in the soil, nurturing vegetables with the same care he gave to everything in life. He also found joy in motor boating, outfitting his craft with pride and precision.
Gene was preceded in death by his beloved Peggy, his son Brian, and his daughter Jeanie. He is lovingly remembered by his children: Mike and his wife Linda, Danny and his fiancée Naroli, and Cathy and her partner Ed. His legacy continues through his grandchildren—Christian, Julianne, Steven, Mark, Christine,Evan, Chantal, Elysia, Jackie, Jeff, Emily, Briana, Nacor—and his godchild, Tricia and her daughter, Brooke, his sister, Bobbie and her son, Jim F. He was adored by his great-grandchildren: Reese, Collins, Peter, and Sanibel, who shared his birthday.—a beautiful reminder of life’s enduring cycle.
Visiting hours will be held at Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington Street, Braintree, on Tuesday, October 7th from 4–7 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 153 S. Franklin Street, Holbrook, on Wednesday, October 8th at 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Gene’s memory be made to the American Legion, Post 149, 104 King Street, Hanover, MA 02339. Gene’s life was a testament to love, service, and resilience. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
