Esther Grace Leary

ABINGTON – Esther G. Leary, 87 years of age, peacefully passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2022, following a brief illness. Esther, the eldest daughter of Paul E. and Louise F. (Ramsdell) Leary, was born in Portsmouth NH and lived in Kittery, ME before moving with the family to Quincy, MA when she was 4 years old, and then to Braintree, MA, where she was raised. In her later years, she moved to Dover, NH, then Abington, MA. Esther graduated from Braintree High School in 1952, and from Bridgewater State Teacher’s College in 1956. She taught at the Penniman School in Braintree, MA during college. After graduation she taught at a school in Greenfield MA where she boarded with a family, and then 2nd grade in Abington MA for a few years before changing careers and was hired as a data entry clerk by Liberty Mutual in Boston, MA, where she worked for over 40 years, earning an insurance certification, and many promotions. She transferred to a branch of Liberty Mutual in Dover NH a few years before retiring in 1997. Esther was an avid reader, and she loved to travel and spend time with family and friends. With her easy smile and kind and generous heart, she was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Esther is survived by two sisters, Pauline Parent (Abington, MA) and Jeannette Leary (Braintree and Brockton, MA); and a brother, Jeffrey Leary (Las Vegas, NV). She is predeceased by a sister, Shirley Brown, and Allen Thompson, their brother/cousin. She was a cherished aunt to 13 nieces and nephews and their families. Visiting hours will be Tuesday, December 20th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Mortimer Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington Street, Braintree, MA  02184 and a service will be held at the funeral home Wednesday, December 21st at 10:00 AM, followed by internment at the Blue Hills Cemetery, 700 West Street, Braintree, MA 0218 with a reception to follow immediately afterwards at The Chateau Restaurant in Braintree. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Beacon Hospice Care, 529 Main St, Suite 126, Charlestown, MA  02129.  For more information and directions, please see www.peckservices.com
