Edmund “Ed”, “Eddie” F Kelly, of Braintree, passed away on June 1, 2024 in Braintree at the age of 93. He was the youngest of eight of the late Thomas J and Catherine (Sullivan) Kelly. Ed leaves cherished memories with his daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen S. (Kelly) Bretagne and Richard F. Bretagne, granddaughters Kelly, Kaitlyn and Keira Bretagne of Braintree, beloved sister-in-law Sheila Hicks, nieces, nephews and friends. He was the brother of the late Thomas, John, Francis “Bunnie”, James, Mary “Mae” (Kelly) Molloy, Catherine “Cady” (Kelly) Earley and Joseph Kelly. Edmund was raised in Mission Hill and developed a strong sense of family with the Kelly’s and Sullivan’s. Edmund was a graduate of Commerce High School and faithful member of Mission Church. He loved to attend and share his love for the Red Sox with his friends and family members at Fenway Park. With respect and admiration for his brothers who served in WW2, he served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves. Eddie worked for Boston Edison for over 40 years until his retirement in 1995. He met the love of his life, Mary and eventually moved to Braintree where they raised their daughter, Kathy. Edmund was the beloved husband of the late Mary I (Lynch) Kelly for over 40 years. Ed and Mary were devoted to each other and were always together until her death in 2011. They enjoyed bowling, dancing and spending time with their daughter, son-in-law and three granddaughters. Their roles as Ma and Papa brought them both the greatest joy in life. They honeymooned in San Francisco and Las Vegas and enjoyed trips to Ireland. Ed was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi and St. Clare Parishes. He was a member of the Braintree Knights of Columbus Council 1462, American Legion Post 86, and former Braintree Men’s Club. Ed enjoyed visiting and sharing stories with his friends at the Braintree Senior Center. More than anything, “Papa” loved spending time with his three granddaughters and his buddy Finn. Ed loved to follow all the Boston sports teams, especially the Red Sox and was ecstatic to see them win 3 championships. We know he will be cheering on the Celtics with his brother John in hopes for banner 18. Ed was a true gentleman with a twinkle in his beautiful blue eyes and a smile that would light up every room. His charming personality will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him. Thank you to the staff of John Scott House for the loving care and compassion you all showed Edmund and support you showed our family. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, June 6 from 4-8 P.M. at the Peck Funeral Home 516 Washington St. Braintree,MA. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Braintree on Friday, June 7 at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in West Roxbury.
