BRAINTREE – Doris M. Sawler, 99 years of age, entered Eternal Life into the arms of her loving Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday March 24, 2023. She passed away quietly at her home. Doris was born in Dover, NH on November 8, 1923 and moved to Braintree at an early age. She was a graduate of Braintree High School where she lettered in field hockey. During World War II she was a civilian employee of the United States Navy, employed at the U.S. Naval Ammunition Depot, Hingham, Massachusetts where she was recognized for her service to the Navy and to the Country for remaining on essential war time work until her services could be spared or until the end of hostilities.
Doris was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Braintree where she was a member of the choir and served as church secretary for over twenty-five years. Along with her husband, Charlie, she was a charter member of the Fortnighters Group of the church. She spent her summers camping all over New England and New York with her family, most recently in Naples, Maine.
She is survived by her four children Russell A. Sawler, married to Janice Sawler of Bermuda Dunes, CA, Sandy Payzant of Braintree, Richard C. Sawler, married to Joan Sawler of Halifax, and William S. Sawler, married to Catherine Sawler of Abington. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held at the Mortimer N. Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington Street BRAINTREE on Thursday March 30, 2023 from 4-7 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at the same location on Friday March 31, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. officiated by Pastor Glenn Holt. Burial will follow at Braintree Cemetery.
