Antonina “Nina” Pomerenko Tavener, passed away on September 4, 2021 at the age of 99. She was born on November 12, 1921 in Kharkov, Russia. Nina’s family immigrated to China, where she would eventually marry her late husband Harry G. Tavener, Jr., in 1940 who passed away in 1985. Upon returning to the United States the couple made their home together in East Weymouth, MA.
Nina is predeceased by her son, Harry G. Tavener, III.
She is survived by her granddaughter Tracy Tavener and her husband, Jason Jack of Wareham, her grandson, Harry Tavener and his wife, Jeannine of Pembroke, her great-grandson, Trysten Tavener, her two nieces, Gail Tavener and Joyce McGowan and nephew, Malcolm Tavener.
Nina touched many lives over the years. Her advice was a comfort to so many who sat with her at her kitchen table. She enjoyed crocheting, tending to her flowers, sewing, her beloved pets, holidays, Sunday dinners and had a passion for baking (Christmas Cookies were always the coveted gift). Most importantly she was always just a phone call away for those who needed a shoulder to lean on. Her famous words were “better days are coming and this too shall pass”.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to MSPCA-Angell, Attn: Donations 350 South Huntington Ave, Boston, MA 02130 or www.mspca.org/donate.
