BRAINTREE, DORCHESTER, GALLWAY, Ireland. Philomena M. (Mulkerin) Flaherty, 75, of Braintree passed away at home on Friday, December 29, 2017. Philomena was born in Galway, Ireland and came to the United States when she was 7 years old. Her family settled in Dorchester where she was educated graduating from Monsignor Ryan High School. After high school, for a brief time, she entered the convent joining the Sisters of Saint Joseph. She moved to Braintree in 1987. Philomena was very handy and enjoyed yard work and was never afraid to try home improvement projects including carpentry work at which she did very well. She was the beloved wife of the late Matthias Flaherty to whom she was married to for 42 years before he passed away in 2011. She was the cherished and devoted mother of John F. K. Flaherty of Braintree and his former wife Andrea DeMarco. Philomena was the loving and proud Grandmother of Mateus Flaherty of Malden. She was the sister of Mary Feeney of Santa Anna, CA, Bridget Feeney of Quincy and Marcus Mulkerin of Santa Anna, CA. Philomena was also sister to the late Patrick Mulkern, Teresa Maloney, Morgan Mulkerin, Ann Earner, Winnie Flynn and Coleman Mulkern. She was also survived by nephews and nieces too numerous to count.

DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER, A SNOW STORM, THURSDAY’S FUNERAL IS CANCELLED.  Philomena’s Funeral Mass will be rescheduled for MONDAY JANUARY 8th, at Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 856 Washington Street, South Braintree on MONDAY January 8th, 2018 at 10:00 A.M.
