Josephine F. (Sannizzaro) Monaghan

March 22, 1943 ~ September 26, 2017 (age 74) 74 Years Old

Braintree   Josephine Florence (Sannizzaro) Monaghan, 74 passed away on Tuesday September 26, 2017 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born in Boston and raised in Medford where she graduated from Medford High School. After her marriage she moved to Hanover where she raised her family. Josephine was a homemaker and then became the owner of Josephine’s Jewelry Store in Hanover for many years. She was the President of the Massachusetts Jayceettes and received an award from the President of the United States as an outstanding young woman of the year. She worked tirelessly for different civic causes including the installation of Stop signs on all school busses. She was also the State Chairwoman for the Jerry Lewis Telethon supporting Muscular Dystrophy. Josephine was noted for her Italian Cooking skills. She moved to Braintree 13 years ago. She was dedicated to her family and especially loved doting on her grandchildren. Josephine was the daughter of the late Anthony G. Sannizzaro and Maybelle Colorusso. She is the beloved wife of Robert W. Monaghan and the loving mother of Michael J. Lynch married to Anne Marie of Winthrop, Debra F. Burke married to Paul of Hudson, Stephanie K. Sheehan married to Jonathan of Braintree, Robert S. Monaghan of Los Angeles, CA and Dina M. LaPrade married to Shane of Attleboro. Josephine is the adored Grandmother of Christopher M. Sinatra, Kaitlyn Lynch, Michael G. Lynch, Julia Hussey, Connor Burke, Cameron M. Burke, Robert W. Pratt, Brayden M. LaPrade and Chase R. LaPrade. She is also survived by one Great Grandchild. Josephine is survived by a sister, Linda Neal of Brighton. She was the sister of the late Geno A. Sannizzaro, Anthony G. Sannizzaro and Carmen J. Colorusso. She is survived by a sister in law Sandra Sannizzaro of Missouri. Visiting hours for Josephine will be held at the Mortimer N. Peck-Russell Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington Street, Braintree on Friday September 29th from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. A Gathering will be held at the Funeral Home on Saturday September 30th at 9:00am to be followed by a Funeral Mass at Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 856 Washington Street, South Braintree Square at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Braintree Cemetery, Braintree. Memorial donations to Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverley Oak Road, Waltham, MA 02452.
