Janice M. (Gerstel) McLaughlin - Braintree - Jensen Beach, age 72, passed away peacefully, in the presence of her family, on Thursday, July 5th, 2018. She was the beloved wife of Joseph F. McLaughlin. She was the devoted mother of Brendan McLaughlin (B.P.D.) and his wife Sarah of Braintree and Kevin McLaughlin and his fiance, Dawn Florio of Walpole. She also was the mother of the late Brian McLaughlin of Braintree. Janice leaves behind her six beloved grandchildren. She also leave behind her sister-in-law, Nancy McLaughlin of Quincy and her sister, Charlene Brodin and her husband Gunnar of Bourne, MA. Janice enjoyed playing with her dog Molly. Janice was a Nursing Director for Alliance Healthcare and for the John Scott Nursing Home, prior to her retirement in 2010; she also worked as an ER nurse for South Shore Hospital as well as for other nursing homes in the South Shore area. She was a graduate of Regis College with a Master's Degree in Nursing. She was an alumnus of the University of Massachusetts/Boston with a concentration in Nursing. Janice was a member of the National Honor Society at Regis College and at UMASS/Boston. She was a clinical instructor in nursing at Mass Bay College. She loved summering by the Sandy Neck Beach in Sandwich, Massachusetts. She was also the past President of the Nettles Island Assoc. She enjoyed knitting and quilting and spending time with her beloved children and grandchildren. Janice was a kind and sweet loving soul who was the matriarch of this family. Visiting hours for Janice will be from 4 to 8 PM on Tuesday July 10th at the Braintree Mortimer N. Peck Funeral Chapels, 516 Washington St. Braintree, MA 02184. On Wednesday, July 11th, beginning at 8:30 AM, a brief gathering at the funeral home, will be followed by at 9:40 AM procession from the funeral home to St. Clare's Catholic Church, 1244 Liberty Street, Braintree, for a 10:00 AM Mass.
