Irene M. (Sprague) Bew, 89, of Hanson formerly of Braintree died peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, April 24, 2018. Irene was born in Boston and raised in Quincy. She was a graduate of Quincy High School. After her marriage to Colin Bew she moved to Braintree in 1954 where she remained until 1990.Irene was a homemaker but volunteered at the Ross School in Braintree for many years as a teacher’s aide. She had been an active member of the First Congregational Church of Braintree until she moved to Falmouth in 1991. In 1998 Irene moved off Cape and settled in Pembroke until recently when she moved to the All American Assisted Living in Hanson. Irene will be remembered by all who knew and loved her as always smiling and just being a nice person to be around. Irene was the beloved wife of the late Colin Bew who died in 1990. She is the much loved Mother of Cindy Gaudreault married to Chip of East Falmouth, Stephen D. Bew of Pembroke and Christine Ahearn who was married to the late Richard Ahearn of Hanover. She is the adored Grandmother of 8 and Great Grandmother of 8. Irene was the sister of the late Darrell Sprague, Harvey Sprague and Robert Sprague. She is survived by a Sister-In-Law Beverly Sprague of Hanover. At Irene’s request the will be no visiting hours. There will be a graveside service for family and close friends at the Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree on Monday, April 30th at 11:00 A.M. Those who will be attending are asked to come to the Mortimer N. Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington Street, Braintree at 10:30 A.M. to line up for the procession to the cemetery. Rather than flowers the family has asked that donations in Irene’s memory be made to a charity of your choice.
