BRAINTREE Elizabeth “Betty” Ann (Scanlon) Turley, 81, of Braintree, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2018. Betty was born in Cambridge and raised on Adams Street in Dorchester. She was a graduate of Cardinal Cushing High School in South Boston. She went on to receive her bachelor’s degree from Boston College, class of 1957 and became a third-grade teacher in the Randolph Public Schools. She married her husband Jim in 1959 and moved to Westwood. In 1964, Betty and Jim moved to Braintree where she raised their four children. She lived in Braintree for over 50 years. When her children were in school, she became an income tax preparer for the IRS for several years. Betty was happiest at Rexhame Beach, Marshfield, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Her father built the family cottage in Rexhame when she was four years old, and she subsequently spent every summer there. It is still owned by the family. She and Jim were both active in the BC Alumni Class of ’57, which was one of her great joys. Betty was a communicant of Saint Francis of Assisi parish of Braintree and was a member of Sodality. Betty was the beloved wife of James D. Turley (Jim) of Braintree. She was the loving mother of James D. Turley, Jr. married to Jennifer of Braintree, Jeanne C. Turley and her companion Jason Pressman of Wellesley, Christine E. Turley married to Michael Moscaritolo of Westwood, and Anne E. Turley married to Daniel Cordeiro of Canton. She was the proud grandmother of David and Grace Turley, Laura, Liam, and Elise DeFazio, Noel, Ian, and Max Moscaritolo, Genevieve and Brent Cordeiro, and the step-grandmother of Alex, Sara, and Chris Mahoney. Betty was the beloved sister of William F. Scanlon married to Louise of Beverly and Christine Monaco married to Frank of Burlington. Visiting hours for Betty will be held at the Mortimer N. Peck – Russell Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington Street, Braintree on Tuesday, February 27th from 4-8 pm. A gathering will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 28th at 9 am. to be followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 856 Washington St., South Braintree Square at 10 am.
