BRAINTREE - Dorothy L. (O'Donnell) McAlarney, passed away on Monday, October 29, at the age of 88. Dee was the beloved wife of the late Edward J. “Ted” McAlarney. Devoted mother of Stephen McAlarney and his wife Doreen of North Reading, Kevin McAlarney and his wife Patti of Danvers, Timothy McAlarney of Marshfield, Kate McAlarney of Marshfield, the late Michael McAlarney of Braintree, and Brion McAlarney and his wife Julie of Lexington. She was the loving grandmother of twelve grandchildren, and sister of Jane O’Donnell of Gainesville, Fla. She was predeceased by her sisters Mary and Elizabeth, and her brother Gerard. Dee graduated from Gate of Heaven High School in South Boston, and the Katharine Gibbs School. She was a stay-at-home mother for fifteen years before launching new careers, first as an entrepreneur with successful real estate and travel agencies, and then working until age 86 as patient concierge at South Shore Hospital. She loved Elvis, her Yorkshire Terriers, bowling, golf, Celtic Thunder, and trips to Foxwoods. She traveled all around the world, making over 50 overseas excursions, with memorable trips to China, Vietnam, Austria, and of course Ireland. Always a friend to those in need, Dee will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her. A private service for family and friends will be held at the Russell and Mortimer N. Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington Street, Braintree on Thursday, November 8th, at 10 am.
