Dana Bradford Holmes, 81, of Braintree, passed away at Heights Crossing of Brockton on Saturday May 12, 2018 after a long illness. Dana was born in Brockton and raised in Braintree. He was a graduate of Thayer Academy in Braintree and then went on to the School of Practical Arts in Boston. He was employed by and was the manager of T. D. Whitney Co. of Hanover. After leaving T.D. Whitney he became a painter at Goddard Memorial Hospital in Stoughton and then the Lenox Hotel in Boston, from which he retired. Dana had also resided in Abington and Middleborough prior to his illness. Dana enjoyed traveling to Europe and his favorite travel destinations were Australia and New Zealand. He also enjoyed working in his yard and garden and holding many family get-togethers there. Dana is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley C. (Collins) Holmes of Hingham. He is the loving Father of Kimberly J. Holmes of Carlsbad, CA, Scott B. Holmes married to Sydnee of Scituate, Linsley A. Coyle and Harold Tyning of West Wareham, and Peter B. Holmes married to Tracy of Forest Grove, Oregon. He is the proud Grandfather of Ashley Hiehiapo married to Palelei of Pembroke, Kendra L. Hobart married to Adam of Whitman and Brittany Blau married to Christopher of Stamford, CT. Dana is also the Great Grandfather of Salote and Viliami Hiehiapo both of Pembroke. He was the brother of the late Richard W. Holmes and the son of the late Raymond C. and Helen E. (Brown) Holmes. A visiting hour for Dana will be held at the Mortimer N. Peck – Russell Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington Street, Braintree on Wednesday May 23rd from 11:00 – 12:00 pm to be followed by a funeral Service at Noon in the funeral home. The Reverend Jennifer Barrett Siegal of the Old South Union Congregational Church of Weymouth will officiate. Burial will follow at the Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Dana’s family would like to thank the staff at the Memory Care Unit at Heights Crossing in Brockton for their wonderful dedication and care that they showed to Dana over the course of his illness. The family sincerely requests that rather than flowers donations in Dana’s memory be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
