Welcome to the memorial page for

Claire (Courlang) Stern

February 16, 1930 ~ July 26, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Claire (Courlang) Stern, 87 years of age, a resident of Braintree for 57 years, died peacefully at home July 26, 2017, with family by her side.  Claire was born in Lynn, raised in Mattapan, and eventually settled in Braintree.   She was a graduate of the Dorchester High School for Girls.  At a young age Claire enjoyed taking ballet lessons and became an accomplished singer.  Claire was one of the original members of the South Shore Humane Society starting in the 1970’s, and only recently relinquished her role there.  Claire was especially fond of all animals and donated to numerous causes from saving bees to wolves.  She absolutely loved cats and always had at least one cat at home till she passed.  Claire loved to travel, once taking a trip around the world by herself, visiting continents such as Europe, Africa, and Asia.  She was an avid reader and was a frequent visitor to the Thayer Public Library.  Claire was the wife of the late David Stern.  She was the dear mother of Jay Stern married to Christene of Homosassa, Florida and Adrienne Hubbard married to Russell of Hull.  She was the grandmother of Jonathan and Jade Stern of Weymouth, and Catherine Hill of Holbrook.  Claire was also the great-grandmother of Holden Hill.  Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate her life on Tuesday, August 1, from 3-6 pm at the Mortimer N. Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington St., Braintree, MA.  The family would like to thank Adrienne’s HOME Care staff for the professional and caring service they provided to Claire. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Claire’s memory to the South Shore Humane Society, P.O. Box 850187, Braintree, MA  02185.
