Braintree – Carol Irene (Schneider) Gurney, 89 years of age, Entered Eternal Life at her home on Saturday, December2, 2017 after a brief illness. She was born at Montague, MA. Carol received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Bridgewater State College.   She resided in Braintree from 1949 and married Maurice R Gurney in 1951 who passed away in 2005. Carol was an elementary school teacher in Braintree for a number of years and became a substitute teacher after her children were born. Later she became an employee of Filene’s store in Braintree where she headed the Bridal Registry for twenty-five years prior to her retirement. Carol was an active member of the South Congregational Church in South Braintree where she was superintendent of the Sunday School. She worked on many fund raising activities. Carol loved reading and wrote many cordial letters to her family and friends. She was known for her pleasant mannerisms and kindness. She was the wife of the late Maurice R. Gurney. She is survived by four loving children: David M. Gurney married to Dorothy Gurney of Carver, Paul M. Gurney of Burlington, Vt., Cynthia M. Scalata of Braintree and Gwen I. Gurney and her fiancé Carson Ovitt of Charlemont. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, December 7th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Mortimer N. Peck-Russell Peck Funeral Home 516 Washington Street, Braintree. A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, December 8th at 11:00 A.M.
