BRAINTREE - Barbara S. (Stevenson) Opie, 93, of Braintree and Quincy, MA, passed away, at Marina Bay, surrounded by her loving family. Barbara graduated from Braintree High School in 1943. She worked for Armstrong Cork Company, Fidelity Bond and Deposit Company; for Leo Hart Accountants, before retiring in 1995. She was the Director of the Minstrel Program at Post 86 of the American Legion in Braintree as well as a member of Sodalitas at the First Congregational Church in Braintree, and was a lifelong member of the Braintree Historical Society. She loved travelling, swimming, and singing. She was most supportive of the Braintree WAMPS, with her grandchildren who played all sports, with the WAMPS. She was the daughter of the late William J. Stevenson and his wife, the late Isabel (Hauston) Stevenson, of Braintree. She leaves behind her beloved family including her sons, Hugh L. Opie, III and his wife Bonny of Duxbury; William J. Opie, and his wife Jean of Braintree; Wayne P. Opie and his wife Susan of Braintree. She also leaves behind her brother, William J. Stevenson and his wife Ann of Quincy. She leaves behind her seven beloved grandchildren and one beloved great-grandchild. Visitation will be on June 25th, from 5 PM to 8 PM, at the Russell - Mortimer N. Peck Funeral Chapels, at 516 Washington Street Braintree, MA. The Funeral Service will be officiated by Pastor Frady, of the First Congregational Church, at the Braintree Peck Funeral Chapels on Tuesday morning June 26th at 10 AM to be followed by the burial at the Blue Hill Cemetery at 11:15 AM. Memorial donations may be made to the Old Colony Hospice at 321 Manley Street, West Bridgewater MA 02379.
