Lucy Parlee Obituary

BRAINTREE - Lucy A. Parlee (Swan) (88) of Braintree MA passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, March 7, 2024. Lucy was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 65 years, Wayne G. Parlee, her son, Kenneth Parlee, and her sister, Helen Joan Carter. She leaves behind her son, Wayne Parlee and his wife Diane of Pembroke, MA, her son, Richard Parlee and his wife Karen of Braintree, MA, her daughter-in-law, Karen Parlee of Rockland, MA and her daughter, Bonnie Murphy and her husband, Sean of Pembroke, MA. Lucy also leaves behind her brother, Bruce Swan and his wife Sandra of Weymouth, MA and her brother, Alan Swan and wife Joyce of New Hampshire, along with many nieces and nephews. She was also blessed with 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Lucy was born in Quincy, MA in 1935 to Lucy and John Swan and lived on Fairmount Avenue in Braintree. She attended Lincoln Elementary School and graduated Braintree High School in 1953. Lucy met Wayne when they were in elementary school and they married right after high school. Lucy traveled with Wayne when he was in the Navy, living on many bases across the United States. After Wayne’s service in the Navy, they settled in Rockland for a few years before moving back to Fairmount Avenue in Braintree next door to her mother. This home is where Lucy and Wayne raised their family and enjoyed many family gatherings and holiday celebrations. Lucy loved hosting her family for pool parties and, of course, Sunday dinners. Her favorite role was grandmother and she loved bragging about each of her grandchildren. Lucy and Wayne loved attending Sunday service at Quincy Point Congregational Church. They were involved in many aspects of the church and the church community held a special place in their hearts. Lucy worked for 1000 Southern Artery as Activities Director. She adored her “Artery family.” She traveled the world with the Artery and enjoyed sharing these trips with her brother, Bruce and sister-in-law Sandra. Their travels took them all across America and to many international destinations. Lucy’s other love was her home in Ocean Park, Maine. They bought their Maine home in 1970 and had years of family vacations in this home. She enjoyed nightly walks with the whole family to the Soda Fountain for ice cream. Lucy loved the beach and could be found there from early morning to late in the afternoon basking in the sun. She always had the best time in the water laughing and calling out, “I am going to splash you!” A daily ritual, Lucy found comfort in sitting on her porch on Casco Ave in Ocean Park watching the birds and reading a good book while Wayne gardened in the yard. Above all, Lucy can be remembered for sharing endless love and infectious laughter with friends and family. There will be a service for Lucy and Wayne on Friday, April 5th, 2024 at 11 AM at Quincy Point Congregational Church in Quincy MA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Ocean Park Association, PO Box 7296, Ocean Park Maine 04063 in memory of Lucy & Wayne Parlee.
