Quincy – Robert M. Busby, “Buzz”, 84 years of age, passed away at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in West Roxbury on Thursday, January 5, 2017. He was born in Somerville and graduated from Somerville Schools. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean Conflict having served as a sergeant. Buzz was very proud of the fact he played semi-pro football for the South Boston Chippewas.  He had been engaged in the leather industry. He was known for his devotion to his children and grandchildren and especially to his late wife Joan (Ryan) Busby who died in 2014. Buzz is survived by six children: Robert S. Busby of Weymouth, Jayne M. Fitzgerald married to Kevin Fitzgerald of Quincy, Michael J. Busby married to Lisa Busby of Kingston, Dan Busby married to Marybeth Busby of LaGrange, Illinois, Joan A. Busby of Quincy and Carolyn J. McWhirk married to John McWhirk of Plymouth. He is survived by twelve loving grandchildren and by his sister Elizabeth Ober of Woburn. Robert was the brother of the late William, James and George Busby and the late Christine Vicario and the late C atherine Hayden.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Francis of Assisi Church 856 Washington Street, South Braintree on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 10:30. Burial with military honors will follow at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton. Visiting hours will be at the Mortimer N. Peck-Russell Peck Funeral Home 516 Washington Street, Braintree on Monday, January 9th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Memorial donations may be sent to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute 450 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA 02215-5450.
