Nicholas F. Boncoddo

September 23, 1915 ~ February 2, 2017 (age 101) 101 Years Old

BRAINTREE-Nicholas F. Boncoddo, beloved husband of the late Dorothy Boncoddo, entered into eternal life on February 2, 2017, four months after celebrating his 101st birthday. Born in Orient Heights, he graduated from Watertown High School, Northeastern University with a BS degree in Chemical Engineering, and later attended Harvard Medical School majoring in Biochemistry. While working as a Research Chemist at the New England Medical Center from 1938-1942, he met his future bride, Dorothy. In 1942 he enlisted in the Army Air Force, boarded the "Queen Mary" to England, and served three years utilizing radar for surveillance. Upon returning with an honorable discharge from the Air Force, he rejoined the staff of the New England Medical Center where he conducted brain research and co-authored numerous publications in the Journal of Biological Chemistry. Nicholas received the “Service to Humanity Award” from the New England Medical Center.  In 1946, he married Dorothy, and they lived on Beacon Hill before starting their family.  From 1953–1965 he worked as a chemist specializing in coated fabrics and plastics at Weymouth Art Leather Company in Braintree. In 1965 he joined the staff of Plymouth Rubber Company as a chemist and worked there until his retirement in 1980.  He was a member of The American Chemical Society. An avid baseball fan, Nicholas coached Little League for many years, and enjoyed watching the Red Sox. He bowled with the St. Clare’s Holy Name Society until he became legally blind.  Dancing, gardening, cooking, home repair, and playing musical instruments were his interests which he continued in spite of his blindness. A devout Roman Catholic, Nicholas was a daily communicant at St. Clare Parish, an usher for 40 years as well as an altar server.  He was also a member of the Mr. and Mrs. Club, the Holy Name Society for over 50 years, and a Third Degree Knight of the Braintree Council Knights of Columbus # 1462. Nicholas was a sustaining member of the National Right to Life Organization, and he always believed in helping the needy frequently volunteering and contributing to many charities. Nicholas is survived by his three loving and devoted children: Frank and his wife Christine, Anne Thomas and her husband Robert, Gerard, and his grandson Michael and his fiancée, Kym Bender. Nicholas is also survived by his loving cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many caring neighbors and friends. He was brother of the late John Boncoddo, Saveria Boncoddo, Cosimo Boncoddo, and Josephine Fanara. A funeral Mass celebrating Nicholas' life will be held on Friday, February 10th at 11:10 a.m. (slight delay because of snowy weather) at The Parish of St. Clare on Liberty St. in Braintree. Visiting hours will be Friday, February 10th (due to snowy inclement weather)  from 8:30 am to 10:30 am, at the Mortimer N. Peck-Russell Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington St., Braintree, MA.   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nicholas’ memory to Catholic TV, P.O.
