Welcome to the memorial page for

Mary T. (McDonough) Tvelia

March 15, 1951 ~ December 29, 2017 (age 66) 66 Years Old

Weymouth- Mary T. (McDonough) Tvelia, passed away on Friday December 29, 2017 at the age of 66.  She was surrounded by her loving family in her home in Weymouth. Born in Boston and raised in Hingham, she was a graduate of Hingham High School.  Mary made her home in Weymouth since 1975. A social worker for many years, Mary served Boston's homeless population with great compassion and respect.  She was most recently employed at the Shattuck Shelter in Jamaica Plain, until her retirement due to her illness.  Mary is survived by her beloved and devoted husband, William Tvelia. She is the loving mother of Dawn Faria (William) of Marshfield, Gregory Legere (Kim) of Dudley, Kate Athearn (Brian) of West Tisbury. She was predeceased by a son, Gregory Lefevre, and a daughter, Robin Dunton who is survived by her husband Arthur of Lehigh Acres, Fla. She was also predeceased by a sister, Sheila McDonough and leaves behind siblings Michael McDonough (Pat) of Billerica, Robert McDonough of Whitman, Maureen Perry (Jack) of Weymouth, and Eileen MacDougall (Gary) of Assonet.  Mary was the proud Nanny to eleven grandchildren, each of them her favorite.   She will be sadly missed and remembered for her kindness, generosity, and the treasures she found for us all the second-hand store.  Nanny's kitchen was always open, and she was happiest when her family was gathered together to share a noisy, messy, wonderfully chaotic meal.  Visiting Hours for Mary will be held at the Mortimer N. Peck – Russell Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington Street, Braintree on Tuesday January 2, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. There will be a Catholic Prayer Service for Mary on Wednesday January 3, 2017 at 11:00am at the funeral home. Burial will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family sincerely requests that donations in Mary’s memory be made to a cause that she strongly believed in, Healthcare for the Homeless, 780 Albany Street, Boston, MA 02118.
