BRAINTREE- Joseph S. Tomczyk, “Papa”, 95 years of age, of South Braintree, passed away at the Alliance Healthcare Center on January 2, 2017. He was born in Boston and had been a resident of the West End of Boston and was a member of the West Enders. He was a WWII Veteran serving in the US Army from 1942-1946. He served in the Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns and received the Purple Heart among other decorations. He had resided in Braintree for 16 years and was a prior resident of Wareham. He was a retired employee of the Boston Globe Newspaper. He was an avid fan of Boston Sports teams, especially the Bruins and Red Sox. He was the beloved husband of the late Eva (Macierowski) Tomczyk who died in 1984. He was the loving father of Joseph M. Tomczyk married to Catherine Tomczyk and Stanley J. Tomczyk all of South Braintree. He was the devoted grandfather of Laurie Beth Berk married to Jeff Berk of Haverhill and Michelle Tomczyk of Medford. Papa was the brother of Stella Moroz of Canton, Virginia Jolki of Malden, William Tomczyk of Revere, and the late Laura Caccia and the late Walter Tomczyk both formerly of Newton. Visiting hour will be held at the Mortimer N. Peck-Russell Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington Street, on Wednesday, January 4th from 11:00am-12:00 noon, to be followed by a Catholic Prayer Service at 12:00 Noon. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 2:00pm.
