Joan M (Kennedy) Urban

Joan M. (Kennedy) Urban, 66, of Greenfield passed away at her sister’s home in Braintree on Thursday morning, March 22, 2018 after a long illness. Joan was born in Brighton and raised in Braintree. She was a graduate of Braintree High School and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree from Bridgewater State College. Joan was employed in the accounting department at The University of Massachusetts. She was active at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Greenfield, MA where she attended weekly Mass and had been a member of their choir and bell choir. She loved music and playing the piano, saxophone and the bells. She also loved listening to the oldies, playing board games and spending time at the family cottage in Maine with all of her extended family. Joan is the beloved wife of John P. Urban to whom she had been married to for forty four years and the devoted and loving Mother of Kimberly Urban of Braintree and Greenfield. She is the sister of Joe Kennedy and his wife, Ann of Lakeville and Terry Coveney of Braintree. Joan is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews and cousins. Visiting hours will be held for Joan at the Mortimer N. Peck – Russell Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington Street, Braintree on Monday March 26th from 5-7pm. There will be a gathering at the funeral home on Tuesday Morning, March 27th at 9:30 am to be followed by a Funeral Mass at Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 856 Washington Street, South Braintree Square at 10:30am. Burial will be private at a later date. Rather than flowers, Joan’s family sincerely requests that donations in her memory may be made to Baystate Medical Center, 759 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01199.
