BRAINTREE - Jeremiah John Sheehy, “Jerry”, passed away on October 6, 2017 at the age of 84. Jerry was born in Boston on February 24, 1933, raised in Randolph, MA and has been a resident of Braintree, MA for over 50 years. Jerry spent summers with his family throughout his life in Wells, ME where he enjoyed fishing and spending time at the beach. He was a graduate of Thayer Academy Class of 1951 where he starred in football, baseball, and track. With a recommendation from former president John F. Kennedy he attended Harvard University on a football scholarship. After his time at Harvard Jerry entered the Army as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division and was stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC during the Korean War. Jerry was a member of the Randolph Oilers semi-pro football team and entered into a career as a hoisting engineer and member of IUOE Local 4. He worked on many buildings and projects throughout the greater Boston area. Jerry was an active member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 29 in Braintree where he served in many capacities including manager of the club and Chairman for many years. He was active through Braintree as a youth coach and volunteer for various charity organizations. Jerry is known throughout Braintree as the “Hershey kiss man” bringing smiles and love with his compliments and playful personality.

 

Jerry is the husband of the late Carol Ann (Sullivan) Sheehy, and father to the late Jeremiah Sheehy Jr.  He is survived by two brothers, Richard Sheehy of Plymouth, MA and John Sheehy of Wells, ME, three children, Kathleen Sheehy of Tahoe City, CA, Colleen Schleicher of Braintree, MA, and Timothy Sheehy of Bainbridge Island, WA. His legacy continues through his five grandchildren, Zachery, Gabrielle, Mackenzie, Samson, and Valentina. Jerry was a true Irish fighter and will be remembered as a generous soul who was fiercely protective of his family and friends. Visiting hours will be at Mortimer N. Peck-Russell Funeral Home, 516 Washington St. Braintree on Wednesday, Oct0ber 11th from 4pm to 7pm. There will be a gathering at the funeral home on Thursday, October 12th at 9am prior to a Mass at St. Thomas Moore Church in Braintree. Burial will be at Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree.
