John “Jack” Bernard Lyman, 79, of Braintree passed away at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth on Friday January 5, 2018 after a lengthy illness. Jack was born in Quincy and was a 1956 Graduate of Quincy High School. Jack was a Navy veteran of Korean war stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. After his Navy Service Jack worked for ARA Vending Company of Braintree while attending Wentworth Institute in Boston. He then opened his own Vending company, Lyman Vending of Braintree which he operated until 1998. Jack then went to work as plant manager for PharMerica in Brockton until his retirement in 2006.  Jack was an avid Bruins and Patriots fan as well as the biggest fan of The IcePack Mens Hockey league based in Canton, of which his sons were players. He enjoyed his Wednesday cribbage games with his friend Billy Brown. Jack was the beloved husband of 57 years to L. Marion (Frazier) Lyman. Jack was the devoted father of John B. Lyman, Jr. of Quincy, Edward C. Lyman of Braintree, George S. Lyman married to Cate of Watertown, Ct, Arthur W. Lyman of Braintree, Melinda A. Lyman-Wright married to James of Weymouth and Richard T. Lyman and his companion Jeanne Dillon of Quincy. He was the proud grandfather of George S. Lyman, Jr., Claire M. Lyman, Maya I. Wright and Jaimelle M. Wright.  John is survived by two of his sisters Penny Lyman of Mechanicsburg, PA and Mary Carter of Hickory Hills, Illinois. He was predeceased by his brother Edward and his three sisters Evelyn, Alice, and Francis.  Visiting hours will be held at the Mortimer N. Peck – Russell Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington Street, Braintree on Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm to be followed by a funeral service at the funeral home at 3:00pm. The Reverend Scott Killian, Pastor of the South Congregational Church of Braintree will officiate. Burial will be private at a later date. Memorial donations in Jack’s memory may be sent to the charity of the donor’s choice.
