Carl V. Swanson

November 5, 1930 ~ April 2, 2017 (age 86) 86 Years Old

BRAINTREE- Carl Victor Swanson, 86, passed away at Alliance Healthcare of Braintree on Saturday April 1, 2017 after a brief illness. Carl was born and raised in Boston and was a graduate of Boston Schools. Carl was a Korean Conflict Navy veteran serving in Europe, China, and Korea from 1948 until being honorably discharged in 1952. After his Navy service Carl moved to Braintree and opened his own Business, Vic’s Key Shop working as a locksmith. In 1954 Carl was employed by Harvard University as a locksmith advancing to Superintendent of Central Services until 1984. Carl then became an instructor of Lock-smithing for the North Bennet Street School in Boston until his retirement in1992. After his retirement Carl worked for H & R Block as a tax preparer. He was a member of the Masons and enjoyed Square Dancing. Carl is the longtime companion of Joan Bradford of Brockton, He is the devoted father of Cheryl Coughlin married to Richard of Weymouth, and Robert Swanson of North Carolina, Mark Swanson married to Sandra of Coweta, Oklahoma and the late Carl V. Swanson, Jr. formerly of Arizona. He is the proud grandfather of Jaime Coughlin Maher of Lawrence, Timothy Coughlin of Wisconsin, Jennifer Swanson and Stephen Swanson both of Oklahoma. He is also survived by 4 great grandchildren. Carl is survived by his brothers, Roland Swanson of Florida and Leonard Wetterberg of Weymouth. He was also brother to the late Ruthe Buote, Helen Hutchinson and Henry Swanson.  He is also the former husband of Helen F. (Binden) Knudsen of Florida. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held at the Mortimer N. Peck – Russell Peck funeral home, 516 Washington Street, Braintree on Wednesday April 5, 2017 from 4-7pm. A Funeral service for Carl will be held on Thursday April 6, 2017 at 11:00am at the funeral home. The Reverend Stephen McDonald Pastor of the South Shore Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at the Braintree Cemetery. Memorial donations in Carl’s memory may be sent to the V.A. Hospital at 1400 V.F. W. Parkway, West Roxbury, MA 02132.
